Short Bio

Roger Roger is a sibling folk/roots duo from Winnipeg, Canada. Twins Lucas and Madeleine Roger are both singer-songwriters who have joined forces, each playing guitar and shamelessly harmonizing all over each others' songs. The offspring of producer/engineer/musician Lloyd Peterson, the twins have a knack for songwriting that must have something to do with growing up in a recording studio. At times melodic and quirky, lusty and rambunctious, soft and honest, Roger Roger is easily remembered for the blend of their vocals, their genuine vibe, and compelling storytelling.

Extended Bio

It may come as a surprise that the Roger twins haven’t always played music together. Their earlier years saw Lucas fronting Winnipeg rock & roll outfit Modern Man and rebuilding hot-rods, while Madeleine immersed herself in a ravenous involvement of theatre, kayaking and travel. Although often singing together at family campfires, they did not collaborate in their creative efforts until the fateful night when Lucas overheard Madeleine quietly playing her first batch of songs in their living room. He dug what he heard, and grabbing his guitar and an armload of his own tunes, Roger Roger was born.

They each bring their expansive creativity to the project, and have both been praised for their exceptionally mature songwriting skills. Together they wholeheartedly embrace their differences, fusing her magnetic sweetness alongside his unruly charm.

Their debut album "Fairweather" - which reached the No. 1 spot on the National Folk/Roots/Blues charts - showcases the twins' diverse songwriting skills, and is filled with harmonies and thoughtful arrangements. It was recorded in Winnipeg at Paintbox Recording with co-producer/engineer Lloyd Peterson (The Wailin' Jennys, The Weakerthans), and mixed by John Whynot (Kathleen Edwards, Bruce Cockburn). Madeleine drew and designed the album artwork, and Lucas built some of the guitars that were played in studio.

They have spend the past couple of years on tour, zig-zagging across Canada performing at festivals (The Winnipeg Folk Festival, Summerfolk Festival of Arts and Crafts, Live From The Rock, Harvest Moon Festival, Festival Du Voyageur, etc), house concerts (Homeroutes), folk music clubs (Calgary Folk Club, London Music Club, etc),  and writing new songs from their home in Winnipeg.

"Intensely memorable hooks, faultless harmonising and lingering melodies"
- FolkWords (UK)

"Their sibling harmonies are perfectly understated and lovely"
- Mojo (UK)

"Two superbly talented and highly original singer-songwriters who I believe will carry the torch for great Canadian music into the future. Excellent musicianship and innovative, interesting compositions... and they’re so darn young... I hate them.”
- Greg Leskiw (The Guess Who, Mood Jga Jga)

"Fairweather has threads of that life lived so closely and continually to songs and stories, making the worn cliché of “old souls” entirely relevant to their sound together."  The Calgary Herald

"Madeleine’s theatre background lends itself well to writing folk songs that blend elements of real life with quirky fictional characters, while Lucas gravitates towards heavier rock sounds reflecting on the human experience. But Fairweather also manages to find common ground between the two and maintains a sense of cohesiveness." Vue Weekly (Edmonton)

"Winnipeg twins who have music in their blood" - Winnipeg Free Press

(5/5) "Go listen to it as many times as possible" - The Manitoban

"Talented siblings" - Canadian Beats

"The artistry and pure talent brought the house down the same way a full band pulling out all the stops would have...These two harmonize together as if that is the very thing they were born to do...The show was unstoppable!" Canadian Beats
